Wesley's highly structured ways are very different to what we have today. Today I attend an average to above the national median church and find there to be all the attempts by the faithful few to pull the others to more being the issue. And I feel this is partially due to modern culture, however I think it is a much larger problem from where we are missing almost completely the concept of confession. The small group concept is where that needs, should, and does happen, It is very common these small groups might truthfully catch fire, but then there is no band to promote them and mature them further. Iron strengthens iron how many times has a small group gotten red hot and instead of being struck with anvil of leadership to their portion of the flock they instead go sailing off in the wind. Even large churches that employ multiple staff and speakers, at their events, however amazing they were. How many were paid to be there? And if you are being paid for it, how easy is it to become about filling your hours and not Jesus how many congregants, not the small faithful few that are always working, are working.
.Wesley's highly systematic and highly accountable framework really would have a hard time working today. The world is a different world and much larger to the average person. If Wesley was not traveling with his band he would have been kicked out simply to absenteeism.

We need to have structure. We need to have communion and we have to have outreach but I think it looks vastly different in every community as well.
